My Summer Plans!

As the frost begins to melt and the mornings become lighter and lighter, we are reminded that summer is just around the corner and I for one am looking forward to finally putting my coat away for another year. We may have a couple more months to go yet but my summer plans are in full swing and I can’t wait to share all my up coming adventures with you lovely lot! Here’s a little snippet of what I’m going to be up to…

May

To kick the summer off nicely, I have booked me and the boyf a cheeky week away in Rethymnon, Crete the last week of May. If you’ve been following my blog for a while now, you’ll know how much I adore Greece but if you’re new, everything you need to catch up is right here…don’t worry I’ll wait for you ;)

I’ve not seen proper sunshine for over a year so I can’t wait to feel that yummy vitamin D on my skin. What’s great about going to Crete at the end of May as well is it’s still hot enough to sit out on the beach but it’s right before the summer season starts in June, so I managed to get a phenomenal deal from Thomson! *Please note: this post is not sponsored by Thomson, I just really love them and their pre-season prices!*

Whilst I’m there, the plan is to relax for the most part but I’m going to be booking us some fun activities including, an island cruise, a visit to the 16th century Venetian Fortress and a trek through Samaria Gorge…all whilst drinking copious amounts of ouzo and eating all the fabulous Greek food I can get my hands on!

June

Over father’s day weekend I will be heading to Glasgow to see family for a very special 80th birthday party. Unfortunately, due to time constraints I won’t be able to hit the tourist trail this trip but the drive up is so scenic I don’t mind letting the traveller in me take a back seat (sorry, shameless car pun).

Also in June I will be going on a staycation to relax and enjoy some time in nature (hopefully with adjoining spa and wine). We received a buyagift voucher for Christmas over an overnight stay and we have over 100 hotels across the UK to choose from. We haven’t picked one yet but either way, I’ll still be taking you lot along with me :)

July

In July I will be heading to the TBEX conference in Stockholm, which will be my very first time a) in Sweden and b) at TBEX so I am very excited!

I’ll be in Stockholm for four days, however with three days being taken up by the travel conference, it’ll only leave me the evenings and Sunday for excursions…but! I’m determined to see as much of Stockholm as possible so I will still be back with plenty of stories. I’ve had a look and I’m already keen to visit Djurgården, Drottningholm Palace and the Swedish History Museum, so hopefully I’ll get chance to see them.

August

In August I have planned a surprise three day weekend in Dublin for my boyfriend’s birthday (Shhhh! Don’t tell him!). I’m really lucky that he shares my passion for travel so when it is our birthdays we usually surprise each other with a trip away as opposed to spending a fortune on presents. Although admittedly, I’m not opposed to presents, especially if they are sparkly ones ;)

He loves his Guinness, so on the first day my plan is to take him to the Guinness Storehouse for a tour and some drinks, then moving (drunkenly) onto the National Museum of Ireland, Kilmainham Gaol or St Patrick’s Cathedral depending on what he prefers on the day.

On the second day (and his actual birthday) I’m going to surprise him with a day trip outside of Dublin to either the Cliffs of Moher or the Giant’s Causeway. We’ve been to the Giant’s Causeway before (which you can read about here) but it was a very fleeting visit and we always said we’d like to go back during the summer, when it hopefully wasn’t raining and spend a whole afternoon there. He is big on photography so I think he (and I!) will enjoy capturing a bit of Ireland’s natural beauty.

On the final day, I’d like to take him to Dublin Castle and find out more about its history and hopefully if the weather is nice, explore the gardens and local area. But as it is his birthday weekend I will be opening the floor to him so he can decide what he’d rather do.

So now you know my plans, tell me…what are your plans for the summer? :)
