To new beginnings…

Well hello there friends! I know, I know, it has been a little while since you’ve seen me so I just wanted to catch you up on the last three months and tell you what I have in store for Footsteps on the Globe (and me!) as I move forward into the next chapter of life.

Where I’ve been…

The last three months have been a complete game changer for me. I have just started a new job, been travelling off the grid and now thinking about moving abroad (say what??)…let me explain!

Around six weeks ago I left my Marketing Executive job. As I was approaching my three year work anniversary with the organisation and with no further growth or opportunities available within my role, I found myself thinking about what I wanted to do next and what new goals I wanted to set myself.

I knew the job inside out and loved working there and I think I may have stayed on if this fantastic job hadn’t caught my eye. I think you just know when you know, don’t you? I went for the interview and thought, “Oh my god this job is such an amazing opportunity, I need to get this!!” and on the day I was flying out to Bali for 10 days I was told they wanted me on board. Amazing.

So I went to Bali, handed in my notice and started my new role two weeks later! One minute I was going on holiday feeling like the right job was never going to come my way and the next I was starting a whole new chapter in my career and never going back to my old job.

I’m now a Senior Marketing and Communications Officer with a company a lot closer to home and I’m absolutely loving it! Even better I’m in an office filled with passionate travellers like me, so there is no shortage of travel inspiration or advice from colleagues that can divulge all the deets on any particular destination. Hell, yeah.

As a result of all the change, Footsteps on the Globe had to take a back seat and being a firm believer in not posting anything half-heartedly, I decided after I hadn’t got round to producing a blog post for a few weeks and was struggling to find the time to update my social media, I just decided to take a break.

But absence makes the heart grow fonder and I have missed blogging and all of you lovely lot so much! I waited until I was a bit more settled in my new job before I put the wheels back in motion to start blogging again and I’m so glad I did because now I’m raring to go and so excited to produce all new epic travel content for you ?

What I’ve been up to…

Aside from my exciting new career news, I’ve also managed to travel a fair bit in-between!

Last month we went to Bali for 10 days and it was such an incredible experience and like no other place I have EVER been to before. Mr Footsteps and I stayed in a lovely beach front hotel in Sanur and as well as enjoying a little rest and recuperation, we managed to squeeze a lot into those 10 days!

Some of our favourites bits were visiting long-tailed monkeys in Ubud’s Sacred Monkey Forest, speeding over choppy seas at sunrise to watch dolphins catching their breakfast, having lunch facing over an active volcano, trekking along Bali’s infamous rice terraces and watching a Kecak Fire Dance as the sun was setting over a cliff top temple called Uluwatu. The whole trip was magic and I can’t wait to start writing everything up and editing all my footage (stayed tuned!).

I also went to visit the bezzie (aka Tami from The Guilty Girl) down in Oxford and treated her to a day out in Bristol for her birthday and we had such a great day just us girls. We went on a free walking tour to learn a bit more about the city, had a lovely Mexican lunch by Bristol Harbour and then went vintage clothes shopping and Banksy hunting in the afternoon. We had such a laugh!

Despite not covering it on any social at the time, we vlogged together whilst we were there and I’ll be doing a day guide to Bristol in the future. It was awesome!

…Oh and there was also a day trip to London to see the Hokusai exhibition at the British Museum in London and two weddings including one in Glasgow. I’ve been gone, but still somehow been even busier!

Changes on Footsteps on the Globe…

I want to use this opportunity to also tell you about some changes ‘a foot’ on Footsteps on the Globe (sorry, couldn’t resist ?) in the coming months. Don’t worry gorgeous readers, I’m not bailing on you. I’m still an adventure seeking 9-5er but during my hiatus I’ve had a little time to reflect…

During this time off I have reevaluated not just what I want to do and where I want to go in life but what I want to do with this blog. Footsteps on the Globe has been my passion project for the last two years and I want it to evolve and change as I have and inevitably will do in the future.

I honestly feel like a different person to the one that started this blog two years ago and especially when I look back on older posts, I can see how much I have grown and changed.

Shortly before I went on my brief hiatus from Footsteps on the Globe, I took a 30 Day Vegan Challenge and since taking that challenge I never ended up going back. I suspect this is why the vegetarian and vegan societies set the challenge in the hope that you love it and don’t go back and well…I was one of them!

I have been vegetarian for the last four years now as I never really liked the taste of meat but taking dairy out of my diet has been a real game changer and I have honestly never felt better. I did the challenge as an experiment and I was so surprised and equally thrilled with the positive side effects that I wanted to carry on.

With veganism being a part of my life now, I’d like to incorporate that into Footsteps on the Globe. I started to branch out with new content when I posted about the 30 Day Vegan Challenge because I wanted to try something new and now that I am vegan, I want to travel the world and report back, offering tips and advice in real time.

Whether you are a vegetarian, vegan or neither, I think it’ll add a fun new element to the blog as I navigate this new lifestyle and combine it with my love of travel. We can ‘learn on the go’ together, what do you say, eh? ?

What’s up next…

For those of you who follow me on Instagram (cheeky plug there ?), I’ve been uploading daily Instagram Stories from Berlin in Germany the last week. I treated Mr Footsteps to the trip for his birthday but we had such an awesome time, it kinda felt like my birthday too!

I don’t think either of us expected to be so taken by this city but it is so cool and filled with so much culture, history and character we actually talked about moving there. We’ve talked about moving abroad on and off for a few years now but never taken the leap with us being at different stages with work and then feeling overwhelmed with the difficulty of getting work visas (yes, I’m talking to you USA and Australia), so who knows? Maybe I’ll be writing this blog from a German perspective in a couple of years’ time? We’ll have to see!

In the meantime, we will definitely be going back as tourists to explore more of beautiful Berlin and I’ll be starting my video editing process this weekend. I can’t wait to show you the final videos!

We’ve also got some weekends away coming up including a weekend in Scotland which I’m currently cooking up the plans for and a trip to Bath/Bruges/Hamburg potentially in the lead up to Christmas. Other than that I think we’ll enjoy being at home for a little bit!

Thank you to all of you who supported me over the last few months and for being so understand as I took a little time to focus elsewhere. I feel like everything has started to come together now and I’m looking forward to this next chapter in my life and Footsteps on the Globe.

Here’s to new beginnings…
