Formed primarily from sedimentary rock layers that have been shaped over millions of years, the cliffs rise to a height of 702 feet at their highest point and stretch for five miles along the Atlantic coast of County Clare.

Fun fact – the name “Moher” is Gaelic for “ruined fort” and pronounced “Mow-huh”. 😉

How do I get from Dublin to Cliffs of Moher by tour?

Getting from Dublin to Cliffs of Moher via a day trip tour is the easiest and most convenient way in my opinion!

One of the best things about it is you don’t have to drive or navigate and can have a nap on the way home if you fancy it!

As an inexperienced driver I personally find it a lot less stressful to book a guided tour! It’s also a lot cheaper.

A day trip on a guided tour will cost you around £65 on average. However, renting a car for the day, plus petrol (especially in this economy!) will set you back a lot more.

I also enjoy asking the guides lots of extra questions and meeting new people!

There are several different tours from Dublin to Cliffs of Moher. Here are a couple I would recommend:

Cliffs of Moher Full-Day Tour from Dublin: witness the Cliffs of Moher and travel through Ireland’s rich heritage on a scenic drive to the Galway coast. Stopping en route for photo opportunities in Kinvara fishing village and Bunratty Castle.

Dublin: Cliffs of Moher, Atlantic Edge & Galway City: with round-trip transportation from Dublin, visit the Cliffs of Moher (two hour stop), Galway City (two hour stop and walking tour included), and travel along the thrilling Burren Coast of County Clare.

How do I get from Dublin to Cliffs of Moher by coach?

There are many nationwide operators offering coach tours from Dublin to Cliffs of Moher. A coach trip usually takes a full day leaving Dublin at 7am and returning at around 7pm.

Although I would pay a little more to go on a guided day tour to the Cliffs of Moher as you’ll get to stop at other cool points of interest along the way.

Plus, you get a guide that will be able to share their expert knowledge and local insight as part of your trip!

How do I get to from Dublin to Cliffs of Moher by car?

Travelling to the Cliffs of Moher by car from Dublin is pretty straightforward, albeit a bit of a long drive! I’d recommend sharing the driving duties, especially if you’re planning to return on the same day.

On average it takes about three hours and 20 minutes to reach the Cliffs of Moher via the M6 motorway. But it’s pretty much a straight line drive until you turn off at Athenry – so simple to navigate!

The main car park is on the opposite side of the road from the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Centre. I recommend you book your tickets online in advance to be sure of entry. This will also save you time on the day.

If you’re a disabled driver or passenger with a permit, there are several designated parking bays available near the Visitor Centre in the main coach park.

The attendant at the entry cabin will be able to advise and direct you to the available spaces in the areas designated for disabled parking.

Parking is €8 or €4 if you buy an off-peak ticket online.

The return train journey costs €58.98 and then a further €8.00 for the bus from Ennis Bus Station to the Cliffs of Moher.
