Why I want to travel – starting where it all began

As many 20-somethings will appreciate, as I was approaching my 26th birthday and ever closer to the big 3-0, I started to reevaluate life and what I planned to do with it.

I was in an ‘in between’ of sorts. I was in a job that was making me very unhappy and due to its instability I was financially restricted from making any long-term plans. The job and the company just weren’t right for me so I left and decided to embark on a new path. I made the right decision.

Within a few weeks I got a new marketing job that I loved in an area much more fitting for me and started focusing on my long-term plans once again. 3 months later I planned my first trip to Kefalonia in Greece and I was hooked!

On this trip, I swam in the clearest seawater I had ever been in and experienced many firsts including sea kayaking, snorkeling in the open ocean and meeting a wild loggerhead turtle. It was one of the best experiences of my life. One thing was for sure…I had to have more of this!

When I got back I knew I wanted to spend as much time exploring the world, going as often and as far as my piggy bank would allow. I’d grown up moving around different countries with my Dad’s job, experiencing different cultures and ways of life and somewhere between leaving university and having a few bad work experiences, I had lost my roots.

Now my travel fire has well and truly been lit, through countless inspiring travel blogs, books and YouTube videos I drew inspiration and started this travel blog as a promise to myself. I promised to travel and explore as often as I can as well as serve as a pretty cool log of where I’ve been and what I’ve been up to. Plus you never know…if I inspire another 20-something in their ‘in-between’ and they decide to shake things up by travelling more then that would be pretty cool too :)
